Friendship Therapy in Southeastern WI
When people think about relationship therapy, they usually think about couples counseling. But what about your friendships?
If you’re having difficulty making or maintaining healthy friendships, you are not alone.
Friendship therapy creates space to talk about the relationships that don't always get the attention they deserve. Because your friendships matter, too.
How Can Friendship Therapy Help?
Friendship struggles can bring up loneliness, self-doubt, grief, and questions about where you belong. Therapy can offer a space to make sense of these changes, honor the relationships and versions of life that have shifted, and better understand what you need during this season of your life.
Together, we'll explore how your friendships have shaped your sense of self, your expectations of others, and the ways you show up in relationships. This space is also one for honest reflection. Alongside making sense of the ways you may have been hurt, there is room to compassionately explore the ways you may have caused harm, too. From there, therapy can invite new ways of showing up in your friendships—with greater honesty, clearer boundaries, and more space to bring your full self into your relationships.
Friendship Therapy focuses on:
Honoring Your Friendship Story
Take time to honor your stories that have shaped the way you understand friendship and connection.
Listening to Your Nervous System
Pay attention to what happens within you around certain people and relationships, using your body's responses as valuable information about your experiences and needs.
Embracing Growth
Create space to compassionately explore your role in these patterns and consider what repair and accountability can look like.
Honoring Your Changing Self
Reconnect with yourself outside of your relationships and cultivate confidence in who you are and how you want to show up with others.
Building Meaningful Connection
Develop greater clarity around your needs, boundaries, and hopes for friendships that feel supportive and authentic.
I also offer therapy for you and your friend. Yes, you can come to therapy with your friend! Think couples therapy—but for one of the most important platonic relationships in your life. Friendship therapy offers you and your friend a dedicated space to explore your relationship together.
This is typically short term work where you both come in for a few sessions. Whether you're navigating hurt, conflict, confusion, distance, or simply want to better understand one another, you'll have the opportunity to share your experiences and engage in conversations that may feel difficult to have on your own towards finding healing and repair. In person sessions available in Elm Grove, WI or virtually throughout Wisconsin.
Therapy… for your friendships…Yes Your Friendships!
Friendships can be some of the most meaningful relationships in our lives, but they can also change in ways we never expected. You may find yourself going to college and struggling to connect with others, moving to a new city and learning how to maintain long-distance friendships, or realizing that your life has taken a different path than the people closest to you.
Friendship issues can be cause by a lot of things—being the last single person in your friend group, becoming the first to have children, navigating infertility or pregnancy loss while those around you seem to be moving into parenthood with ease, or simply realizing that you and a longtime friend have grown in different directions.
